Why Would a Brand with 150 Years of History Redesign Its Iconic Model?

Time: 2026-07-01
Not just a boat, but a way of life – unhurried, confident, and full of joy.

In the world of yachting, some classics never need to prove themselves. Chris‑Craft is one of them.

Since its birth in 1874, this American yacht brand has defined the very image of classic luxury on the water – with graceful lines, exquisite teak detailing, and a craftsmanship aesthetic that is instantly recognisable.

What it represents has never been just a boat. It's a way of living - unhurried, confident, and full of enjoyment.

So why would a brand with more than a century and a half of heritage choose to redesign one of its own classics – the Launch 27?

The answer may be simpler than you think:

Classics deserve to be passed down, but the way we live is always moving forward.

How Does a Classic Model Respond to a New Generation of Owners?

Among Chris‑Craft’s entire lineup, the Launch 27 has been one of the most iconic for over twenty years.

People have always loved its timeless hull lines, its elegant American character, and the easy, confident feeling it gives you at the helm.

But today’s owners are younger – and they know exactly what they want from their time on the water.

They want piloting to be more intuitive, more effortless. They want a boat that’s not just for cruising, but for gathering with family and friends. They want every detail to reduce the fuss of preparation and leave more room for what truly matters – being out there, together.

So the new Launch 27 isn’t a farewell to the classic. It’s a subtle, restrained evolution.

Upgrades You Can See – and Thoughtfulness You Can Feel

The new Launch 27 still keeps that signature Chris‑Craft silhouette – elegant, timeless – along with the classic American touch of stainless steel, teak, and fine hardware.

But step into the cockpit, and you’ll notice it has been brought closer to the way we use boats today.

A new helm features Chris‑Craft’s proprietary interface, paired with a Garmin wide‑screen display. Navigation, power, audio, and onboard functions are all integrated into one clear view – making every piece of information easier to read, and every manoeuvre more relaxed.

The helm seats have also been redesigned: wider cushions and backrests offer better support, while integrated stainless‑steel handrails add a sense of security. Both helm seats can swivel to face the aft cockpit, so when you’re anchored, the driving area naturally becomes part of the social space.

This isn’t just an added feature – it changes how people interact on board. When the boat stops, the skipper is no longer separated from the group. They can simply turn around and join the conversation.

And comfort doesn’t come at the cost of elegance. The shade system is a perfect example of that attention to detail.

The Launch 27 comes standard with a concealed Bimini top that, when stowed, barely disturbs the boat’s clean lines. For even greater ease, an electric version is available – deploy it at the touch of a button, with no extra hassle.

More storage in the cockpit, cosy wrap‑around forward seating, a teak table, and subtle lighting all make every outing feel more like a place you want to linger.

It’s still a boat that’s a pleasure to drive – but it’s no longer built for driving alone.

It’s built for a spontaneous weekend escape. For bringing the family, for inviting friends. For dropping anchor in the middle of the bay as the sun begins to dip, and staying there, talking, a little longer than you planned.

The Classic Doesn’t Change – It’s the Owner’s Lifestyle That Evolves

A true classic never stays in the past.

It knows how to respond to the present, even as time moves on.

For Chris‑Craft, redesigning the Launch 27 was never about changing its soul.

It was about letting that classic spirit continue to fit into new lives on the water.
